Introduction
You could buy two isuzu freezer trucks with the same chassis, refrigeration unit and insulation. And still have two very different vehicles depending on the compartment.
Whether you need a meat hook truck, or a truck for distributing goods to supermarkets. There are many different types of compartments you can install. Here we will look at all the different options and when you might want to use them.
Types of Isuzu Freezer Truck: 6 Compartment Options
Standard Refrigerated Compartments for Mixed Frozen Cargo
A normal freezer truck compartment will consist of one room that you load your goods through the rear.
This compartment will be used to carry most frozen goods in boxes or pallets. Such as frozen foods, ice cream, vegetables etc. If you’re looking for a food delivery truck to carry various frozen products then a standard compartment is probably your best bet.
If you need to deliver to places without a loading bay, consider adding a hydraulic tail lift. TWL can manufacture these in carbon steel or aluminum alloy. Having one will save you money if your driving through towns with lots of deliveries to make.
Meat Hook Compartments with Stainless Overhead Rails
As the name suggests this compartment will be fitted with stainless steel overhead rails. That allow meat to be hung by a hook.
These can carry anywhere from 20-30 cows or pigs on our KV600 8 tonne model. By hanging meat from the roof there is no risk of cross contamination and you can cool meat much quicker.
The rails can also link up with the rails in your butchery making loading easier. This can be a big factor if you need to transport large quantities of meat regularly.
The floor on these
trucks is also made of aluminum alloy to prevent slipping. And help with cleaning after loading.
Multi-Temperature and Partitioned Compartments
As the name implies you can install multiple rooms inside your freezer truck. Each of which can be kept at different temperatures.
This is ideal for companies who deliver to supermarkets as they may need to carry chilled and frozen goods. You can keep frozen food at -18c while keeping cheese or milk at 2-4 degrees.
Obviously you’ll lose some room on your truck by fitting partitions. So if you’re only carrying frozen goods it’s probably not worth doing.
Ventilated Compartments for Live Poultry Transport
This type of truck will be used to carry live poultry. Usually chicks that are transported from hatchery to farm.
This truck will not have a refrigeration unit installed. Instead you’ll need to make sure the birds have enough air flow and are kept warm. We use a similar insulation to keep the temp constant but dont cool the compartment.
If you are looking for a freezer truck to carry poultry make sure you specify that you need ventilation not cooling. As we have these trucks on the same chassis as our regular freezer trucks.
Light-Duty KV100 and KV600 Compartments for Urban Delivery
Light duty freezer trucks will usually be used in city areas where you need to make many small deliveries.
Our KV600 8 tonne is built on the QL1080 chassis with external dimensions of 7,120 x 2,510 x 3,460 mm. Wheel base of 3,815 mm. And a compartment of 5,150 x 2,300 x 2,300 mm. With a max gross vehicle weight of 8000 kg. And a kerb weight of 5020 kg. Our KV100 will be smaller again.
Engine is a ISUZU 4KH1CN6HB with 132HP. It’s a 2,999ml 4 cylinder turbo diesel. Meets Euro 6 emission standards. Using an ISUZU 6 speed transmission and 7.00R16 tires. All of this is ideal for making many deliveries in town.
Heavy-Duty FVR 10-Ton Compartments for Long-Haul Distribution
Our heavy duty freezer trucks are made for long distance hauling. They have a bigger compartment and can carry more goods.
You will want to have thicker insulation on your truck if you are doing longer distances. As the cooler will have to work harder to keep your goods at the correct temperature. We recommend 100mm insulation on our FVR range.
Insulation, Refrigeration Units and Temperature Ranges Explained
There are many factors that go into how well your freezer truck will keep goods cold. One of which is the quality of the insulation used in the body.
At TWL we use a combination of EPS (XPS), PU and FRP to make the body of the truck. These come in 80mm and 100mm thicknesses. XPS has low heat conduction and is water resistant. Making it ideal for use in refrigerated trucks. The outside is made of FRP which is lighter and does not need to be painted.
We use Thermo King coolers which can range from -20c to +12c. You can keep goods frozen at -18c and chilled between 0-4 degrees.
All of our trucks come with forced air circulation to ensure goods are kept at a constant temperature throughout the truck.
